On October 14th, credit unions across the nation unite for CU Kind Day, spreading kindness through acts of service. This annual event showcases the commitment of credit unions to give back by volunteering, donating, and educating their communities.

At Penn East, our CU Kind Day project focuses on supporting the CEO Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank, which provides food to charitable organizations serving children, the elderly, and families in need. The food bank fights hunger, reduces food waste, and promotes nutrition across Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna, and Wyoming counties.

Penn East’s CU Kind Day Efforts:

In June, 24 Penn East volunteers helped pack food boxes at the food bank for families in need, and another 24 volunteers returned in September to assist with organizing and packing more. Our commitment extends to being a Silver Sponsor of the CEO Weinberg Food Bank’s Annual Thanksgiving Project, helping families enjoy a warm holiday meal.

This winter, Penn East will also host a community food drive at all five branches, with donations going directly to the food bank to continue the fight against hunger.

Shred Day Event:

Additionally, Penn East is hosting a Shred Day on Thursday, October 17th, at our Corporate Center from 10 AM to 2 PM. This event, open to the public, offers a safe way to dispose of sensitive documents and support the community’s well-being. Learn more and RSVP by visiting our Shred Day Event on Facebook.

Financial Literacy Program:

Partnering with Maternal Family Health Services, Penn East will be hosting a Financial Literacy program titled Financial Foundations for Moms: Building a Secure Future on Tuesday, October 22nd. A Spanish-speaking ambassador will be on hand to help ensure accessibility for all attendees. To learn more and share this event, visit our Financial Literacy Program page.
